Twin Beds and Single beds is there a difference?

If you look though any website that sells beds or you walk into a brick and mortar store you would come across the word twin beds and single beds. But are twin beds and single bed the same, or are they two different types of bed. Without a fact though the single bed and the twin bed is gaining in popularity and therefore this makes it even difficult to choose the right bed for your home or room. They stand as an excellent choice not only for kid’s room or kids beds but even for adults and teenagers who do not want to compromise their home furnishings with their home décor. There is a lot of flexibility that you can enjoy with twin beds and single beds, you can use them as a cheap sofa bed, seat or even choose to incorporate an entire storage space around your single bed, and when needed all you need to do is pull the bed out.

What do you mean by a twin bed? Twin beds came into existence during those times when king size beds and queen beds were not in much existence. Everything for the bed including the mattress was manufactured for a couple or single person. The single bed during those times could be found in varying dimensions and when two twin single beds were sold together or kept together to form a big bed it was called a twin bed.

The single bed however did not really have any kind of standard dimension. However most single beds are narrower in width around 39 inches and 75 inches in length. If you have your grandma’s twin mattress lying around and try to use it on the single bed you will find its size is in surplus. Single beds are a bit narrower than a twin bed.

However both these beds are now very synonymous and there is not much difference between a twin bed and a single bed. These days a single or a twin bed measures 38 inches in width and 75 inches in length. These are dimensions that are followed all across Latin America, North America, Europe and Australia. In a few countries however the single beds or twin beds are a bit narrower in width.

When buying a single or twin bed you need to make sure that you first understand your requirement. Take into consideration the dimensions of the room or the area where the single or the twin bed will be placed. Judge if you need any kind of storage space, since single and twin beds also come with enough of storage area where you can stores sheets, pillows and other nick-knacks of your home. You can choose from simple and elegant looking futon beds or even bunk beds. There are several materials that you can buy your single bed in, you will find materials like wood and metal and a combination of both very alluring and stead. If you are looking to add a bit of elegance then you can even choose a complete leather bed, which has a class of its own.
